About Sinjar
Sinjar is the ancestral homeland to Iraqi minorities, including the Yazidis, a religious minority who suffered genocide in 2014 on the hands of the so-called Islamic State. Sinjar is diverse and multicultural where Arabs, Christians, Kurds, Yazidis have lived together in peace for many centuries. The latest genocide destroyed the social fabric as well as the economy of the region. Nearly two third of Sinjari population remain displaced and those who returned have very little opportunity in their local economy. Sinjar Academy is founded to support people in this region and residents who have been displaced to other regions including the IDP camps in Kurdistan Region.
